Whether on duty or off, don't take chances with your safety. You always carry your training and warrior spirit with you, so you also need to carry a gun and carry a way to positively identify yourself as a police officer. I've found no better tool for off-duty ID than the Hi-Viz Police Banner from DSM Safety. They are available for belt carry, pocket carry, and even as a sleeve for your go-bag straps. Check out the options and watch a convincing video at www.dsmsafety.com.
NOTE: I have a model PATROL RIFLE POLICY for police agencies interested in establishing a patrol rifle program or those who need a policy for an existing program. Improve your officers' proficiency and reduce your agency's liability by having a comprehensive policy in place.
Annual qualification IS NOT training!
It’s a sad fact that many police departments do not conduct regular firearms training. An even sadder fact is that many officers do not possess the initiative to get training for themselves on a regular basis. An agency that does not adequately train officers is vicariously liable for failing to properly train and supervise its officers. An officer who neglects his/her training is negligent and also liable, not to mention unprepared to survive or to save lives. Please take a few minutes to read the article posted on this site entitled, “Training Liability in Use of Deadly Force” for some insight regarding our courts and police training. Don’t let complacency stifle your professional growth and don’t rely on the false hope that your agency alone will face the consequences for your inadequate training. Get motivated and keep your survival edge sharp!
My goal is to make practical, affordable training available at the local level. Affordable enough that even if your agency won’t pay for it, you can still get the kind of professional resources you need to protect yourself on the street, in the courtroom, and to maintain an adequate level of proficiency for qualification.
In order to obtain credit from the Mississippi Board on Law Enforcement Officer Standards & Training (MBLEOST) for in-service firearms training, the following guidelines must be met:
I will provide documentation to you so that your agency head simply has to review it, sign it, and mail it to MBLEOST.
Training hosted by 720 Safety Concepts, LLC will be conducted by credentialed law enforcement instructors who have received certification from the NRA Law Enforcement Activities Division or a nationally recognized firearms instructor resource such as a firearms manufacturer’s official training program. All lesson plans used to conduct law enforcement firearms training are pre-approved by the NRA's Law Enforcement Activities Division.

LE HANDGUN IN-SERVICE TRAINING
These courses provide participants with reviews of fundamental skills and tactics necessary for effectively using a duty handgun. Local in-service training is an excellent way to provide opportunities for firearms training for officers in smaller agencies who may not otherwise have time and resources needed to travel and attend courses, for officers who need refresher training to maintain perishable skills, and for those who have an accelerated level of training but find themselves at a plateau. The lesson plans and courses of fire will be approved by NRA's Law Enforcement Activities Division and NRA training certificates will be awarded. Packets for obtaining state approval for training hours will be included with the course. I have established courses and can customize training to meet officer and agency needs.
A W-9 is available upon request and agency purchase orders are accepted.

CONCEALED CARRY for POLICE; 4 HOURS
This is an in-service handgun course designed for officers who carry concealed handguns off-duty and/or during plain-clothes assignments. The lesson plan and course of fire has been approved by the NRA Law Enforcement Division. NRA police firearms training certificates will be awarded for 4 hours of firearms training. A packet will be made available for those who wish to request MBLEOST training credit, also.
This shooting course may also include an additional classroom session consisting of USE OF FORCE training in accordance with Mississippi's justifiable homicide statute and an overview of Mississippi's firearms laws, as well as federal firearms laws that may affect off-duty carry or that may be relevant to line of duty interactions with citizens. LEOs in Mississippi are exempt from state conceal carry laws (a permit is not required). LEOs may still obtain a state permit and remit an affidavit confirming police handgun training to receive the "enhanced permit" endorsement without additional training that would be required for civilians.
